The March for Science is an event that takes place this year on Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd. It is to happen in Washington, D.C. There also around 358 satellite marches happening in the United States, including one in Dallas, Texas.

The students at Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School are getting involved by making posters for the event. During advisory students in Ms.Judith’s class are making posters to support the event happening at 9am in South Dallas/Fair Park.

March for Science is a peaceful protest, for the fact that science has a place in politics. It wants to have evidence-based policies and regulations. It is also just a “celebration of science” to help humanize science, get funding, diversify science, and support scientists. Bill Nye is a honorary co-chair alongside Mona Hanna-Attisha and Lydia Villa-Komaroff. Nye posted a letter on

The Planetary Society’s website to help get people marching and explain why he was marching. In the letter he explains that “space science brings people of all walks of life together to solve problems,” along with other sciences. Villa-Komaroff explained in an interview that she has felt “that just because I am a scientist does not free me from my responsibility in my community.” She created a nonprofit, SACNAS, to help Latinos and Native Americans get to college for a STEM career.
