Jennifer Narvaez is a freshman at Irma Lerma Rangel YWLS. Recently, Jennifer was volunteered by her peers to do a painting for  high school math teacher, Luis Araiza, to hang on the wall in his classroom. Mr. Araiza had three paintings that students have made with quotes on them. Jennifer was volunteered by fellow freshman, Kristen Herrera, who happens to be the artist of the two paintings on Mr.Araiza’s wall.

The quote on Jennifers painting is, “Sometimes it’s the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.” She says that this quote made her feel inspired. Her inspiration for her painting was previous artwork that she has done that has dealt with trees, and nature. “I generally like to relate my art with nature.” Says Jennifer. “Even though it gives off the vibe of depression.”

“I only like having my art on display if it’s good, and I personally think this piece is ugly. Yeah, I’m not very confident with my art.”

Even though she’s not all that confident with her art, Jennifer still frequently creates art. She thinks that one day she could potentially become an artist if she wanted to, because Jennifer enjoys doing what she loves . Some artists that inspire Jennifer and her work are: Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh.

As for last remarks, Jennifer says that she would like to be asked questions [about her artwork] that make her question herself, “[because] art cannot simply be defined by the expression of words, but of one self’s one expression.”
