iHeartRadio Music Awards: A Night of Fun and Music
On March 5, 2017 the iHeartRadio awards took place in California, hosted by Ryan Seacrest. The show was filled with performances from various artists and the categories were very diverse. For example, there were your typical awards such as Pop Album of the Year, but there were other awards such as Rock Artist of the year, Country song of the year, Best hip-hop artist, R&B Artist of the year, Latin Artist of the year, and Regional Artist of the year. This year’s show started off with a fun and exciting performance by Katy Perry, who performed her newest song “Chained to the Rhythm” with Skip Marley featuring a bunch of little kids on stage. That was just the beginning of a night filled with amazing performances from different artists and awards!
After Katy’s performance, Jeremy Renner came out on stage to present the first award of the night (Song of the Year), awarded to Justin Timberlake for his hit song “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Justin gave a heartwarming speech to the younger generation when he went upstage to accept his award. Justin stated “Being different means you make the difference…” Joe Jonas and Halsey announced the next performer of the night, Big Sean, who performed “Bounce Back” followed by “Moves.” Florida Georgia Line presented the award for Best New Artist, awarded to the Chainsmokers. In their acceptance speech they stated “We won’t take this award lightly, you know, Best New Artist takes a lot of responsibility, we won’t let you guys down.” When they got off stage, Miley Cyrus walked up the stage holding an “I Heart Noah Cyrus” sign while wearing an “I Heart Noah” shirt! Showing a lot of sisterly love, Miley also announced her little sister Noah’s performance. Noah performed her song “Make Me Cry” featuring Labrinth. Country Artist of the Year was the next award of the night and that was awarded to Thomas Rhett. DJ Khaled later on introduced Ed Sheeran with help from his son! Ed performed a medley that included two of his hit songs from his new album Divide, the songs were “Shape of You” followed by “Castle on the Hill.”
The next award of the night was Best Lyrics and that was bestowed to “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber, lyrics written by Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco and Justin Bieber. After that, Demi Lovato got the audience pumped for a performance by the Chainsmokers. They performed a medley that started with their hit song “Paris” followed by the song “Something Just Like This” featuring Chris Martin from Coldplay who later joined the crowd halfway through his performance! The following award was Dance Song of the Year and that was handed out to none other than the Chainsmokers and Halsey for their song “Closer.” Fifth Harmony made their first appearance of the night by presenting Thomas Rhett to the stage. John Legend then came out on stage to present the award for Best Tour to Coldplay for their A Head Full of Dreams tour. Following that award, Shawn Mendes took the stage and performed his beloved song “Mercy.” The award that was presented afterwards was Best Fan Army, given to Fifth Harmony. The Innovator Award followed, which was rightfully given to Bruno Mars! Before receiving his award he performed a medley of two of his popular songs, “Treasure” and “That’s What I Like.” During his acceptance speech Bruno stated “I genuinely feel like I’m just getting started. I don’t know where we’re going yet, but we are going.”
