The presidential race of 2016 so far
November 3, 2016
The presidential election of 2016 has been a tough one for voters as options have dimmed down to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
On July 19, the nation panicked as no one believed Trump would ever become a presidential candidate. Trump had won the Republican party over and Bernie Sanders, a former candidate, was falling behind in the Democratic race. Sanders had won over the hearts of younger voters and people of color as he’d shown he’d been supporting them even before the campaign. When Sanders lost to Hillary Clinton on July 26, people refused to believe it and continued to try and vote him in as a third party. Some people even refused to vote as they feel like we would all be doomed no matter who they choose. It would be logical for people to think of Clinton as the better pick out of the two. She would be the first female president and she also has better plans for our nation, but opinions are starting to waver as Clinton’s past, along with her husband’s, are starting to come back to haunt her.
In his speeches and in recent debates, Trump has disrespected many people including women, one of the many groups of people Clinton claims to be an advocate for. When Trump’s comments encouraging sexual harassment were brought to her she quickly dismissed it by changing the subject.
“It makes you want to turn off the news. It makes you want to unplug the internet or just look at cat GIFs,” Clinton told San Francisco donors on October 13. She continued to ramble on about cat videos “I’ve watched a lot of cats do a lot of weird and interesting things,” she said drawing a few laughs, “But we have a job to do. And it’ll be good for people and cats.”
It is presumed that the reason Clinton chooses to ignore the comments is because if she were to speak against them, there would be an uproar about the rape allegations against her husband and former president of the United States, Bill Clinton. Women who are victims of sexual assault as well as others have become furious because of her silence on the situation. Trump was even spiteful enough to invite all of her husband’s accusers to the second debate.
Clinton has also sparked some controversy in the LGBT community. In 2015, Clinton changed her whole perspective on same-sex marriage after opposing it for decades and the LGBT community isn’t buying it. It is believed that the only reason she changed views is to advance her stance in the presidential race. In 2004, Clinton even went as far as trying to ban same-sex marriage stating that it was ” a sacred bond between a man and a woman”. She’d shown her opposition for same-sex marriage for nine years and people don’t expect that it’d change in five. Especially, right before her presidential bids.
People dislike Trump for obvious reasons he’s the most idiotic, racist, and misogynistic person to ever walk this earth. Trump has publicly insulted immigrants in his candidacy speech stating “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing their problems with us. They’re bringing crime. They’re bringing rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Hatred has never burned deeper for someone not only because he insulted immigrants, but recently it has been revealed that he has made statements encouraging sexual harassment. According to Forbes, Trump has also been sued by the Nixon White House for pretending that his rental properties had no vacancies when black people tried to lease them. He’s even publicly made fun of a disabled person and some people refuse to believe that Trump has done anything wrong.
Trump claims that immigrants are swarming into America by stating the number of 42.4 million, when that number only accounts for 13.3 percent of the U.S. population. His immigration policies are said to be “putting Americans first” by ensuring that they get jobs before immigrants do. If unemployed, American, people truly wanted to get a job and work hard for what they want, they would have one by now. He speaks as if immigrants are bullying American people out of a job and constantly refers to them as “aliens”. He also has plans for his famous wall that he doesn’t even plan to pay for himself. Trump also has debts of at least $650 million dollars, if he becomes our president America’s debt will soar even higher than it already is.
America’s presidential candidates have dimmed down to someone who changes their stance as a feminist in order to protect her husband’s misdoings and someone who doesn’t even have his own debts together and plans on kicking 13.3 percent of the population out because of his own racist opinions. This country has never been in a bigger crisis.
